In this talk we afford the optimal design of courtyards as thermal comfort arquitectural structures in mediterranean climates. More precisely, we afford the optimal design of the corridors in cloisters to reach thermal comfort in the lower (human-inhabited) part of the cloister. With this purpose we build a certified Reduced-Basis model of the forced convection Smagorinsky LES turbulence model, based upon a-posteriori error estimation. In this model the dimensions of the corridor appear as parameters. We then minimise a thermal-comfort functional (the difference between the computed temperature and the comfort temperature on the lower part of the courtyard), in a small computing time thanks to the Reduced Basis model. As a result, the thermal-comfort optimal courtyards should have corridors with the smallest possible height and the largest possible width.
