State-of-the-art coupling schemes often only reach first order in time or have to be tailored to a specific use case. Using an approach inspired by waveform relaxation, we developed a flexible and robust coupling scheme that allows for higher-order coupling of arbitrary solvers in a partitioned fashion. Additionally, the coupled solvers can use different time-step sizes (multirate time-stepping). Following the design of preCICE, our scheme only requires the exchange of data at mesh nodes that belong to the coupling interface. This results in a black-box coupling scheme that is easy to use and minimally invasive because no assumptions on implementation details of the solvers are needed. In this talk, we will give an overview of the state of development in preCICE and showcase the performance of our coupling scheme.
